Lémaniques no. 135 - The Great Lakes, sick in spite of themselves

After a first part devoted to their power (Lémaniques n°128), this new issue offers a lucid - and sometimes worrying - insight into the hidden face of the Great Lakes, those fragile giants that include Lake Geneva. Despite their size and key role for the planet, they are showing signs of 'ill health' in the face of human pressures: eutrophication, chemical pollution, overexploitation, climate change... Their ecosystems are developing pathological dynamics that are altering the way they function, their biodiversity and the services they provide. A strong message emerges: restoration takes decades, prevention is vital. It's up to us to act to preserve their resilience before it's too late.

Also in this issue our many news items not to be missed the "Stop Knotweed" campaign continues, with the Upcoming "Éveil du Léman" outings by the lake or our summer camps for 10-13 year-olds. The participatory science project "Lemanscope which lasts until autumn. And in the "Young People's Pages", Captain Lemo invites you to explore the secrets of the shores of Lake Geneva while learning how to better protect them.
