Water pollution by plastics is a worldwide phenomenon, and is one of the most alarming problems to be tackled in terms of protecting the aquatic environment. Lake Geneva is no exception.

The study conducted by Julien Boucher, commissioned by the ASL, and published at the end of 2018 in the journal " Lake Geneva region "shows that 50 tonnes of plastic enter Lake Geneva every year.

Following these results, the ASL convened a workshop on 21 November 2019 scientists, infrastructure managers and government officials to examine the issue.

The ASL has chosen 4 themes for the expert groups to examine:

  • Plastic pollution via road water: tyre dust
  • Water treatment
  • Littering
  • Ecosystems

As a follow-up to these workshops, a summary report will be published and in 2021 will be the subject of a public conference to present the results and inform the public about the current situation in our region
