The mining resources of Lake Geneva: myths, explorations and realities

Lake Geneva provides daily services to human populations and nature. What about the potential mineral resources in the Lake Geneva region?

Between swimming, transport, drinking water and food source, Lake Geneva provides services to the population of the Lake Geneva region. Traces of molasse quarrying are still visible around Lake Geneva. These stones were notably used in the construction of many buildings in Geneva. What about today? Is there gold buried in the lakebed? Where does the Alps' salt come from? What is the potential for mineral extraction in the Lake Geneva region?

Lecture given by Adrien Bonny, senior project manager at the Association for the Preservation of Lake Geneva, and Robert Moritz, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Geneva.
