Between the 1960s and 2000, Lake Geneva went through a critical period of pollution and progressive asphyxiation. However, thanks to the determined mobilisation of civil society, scientists, fishermen, journalists and institutions, the lake was (almost) saved.
On the occasion of the exhibition «Léman, the awakening of a people», presented at Espace Léman in autumn 2025, this webinar offers a look back at this little-known chapter in the lake's history. We will explore the key stages of this citizen mobilisation, the crucial decisions that helped reverse the trend, and the lessons it offers us today, as new threats loom over Lake Geneva.
