Help us preserve Lake Geneva

Asian knotweed (Reynoutria japonicaReynoutria sachalinensis and Reynoutria x bohemica) are invasive alien plants that were imported from Asia in the 19th century as ornamental and forage plants.

Their extensive rhizome network and extraordinary growth capacity (8cm per day!) has enabled them to colonise a wide range of environments very quickly.

They reproduce mainly vegetatively, with a single centimetre of stem or root giving rise to a new plant, making it easy for them to colonise the entire length of a watercourse.

In order to combat these plants, which are a threat to biodiversity, it is necessary to pull them out manually on a regular basis. That's why we work every three weeks, from April to October, on the outbreaks we manage.

This enormous task is impossible without the help of volunteers, so any help is most welcome!

To raise awareness and inform young and old alike, we are present at various events with themed stands.

This gives us an opportunity to present the ASL's activities and to meet the general public to answer their questions, inform them and raise their awareness, as well as to help them discover the wealth of biodiversity on Lake Geneva.

If you are interested in promoting the ASL and the wealth of biodiversity on Lake Geneva, please register using the form below.

Four times a year we need people for 3 days to help us put the 8,500 copies of our quarterly into envelopes.

In a relaxed but studious atmosphere, accompanied by coffee and biscuits, it's a chance to meet people from all walks of life and talk about our experiences, our concerns or simply tell people about our last holiday.

If you're interested, simply fill in the form below.

Do you have special skills that you would like to share with the ASL?

We're always looking for volunteers with skills in the following areas: manual work (wood, electricity, assembly, etc.), artistic work (photography, video, scenography), other (interior decoration, window dressing, etc.) and administrative work.

Net'Léman is an initiative to clean up the banks and depths of Lake Geneva in fifteen or so areas in Switzerland and France. Each year, more than a thousand volunteers of all ages and backgrounds take part, including nearly 300 certified divers, with the aim of preserving the beauty and health of Lake Geneva.

Each year, between 5 and 10 tonnes of rubbish are collected before being sorted and, if possible, recycled. Riverbanks, harbours, landing stages, quays, beaches, river mouths and all the places most frequented during the year are combed through with a fine-tooth comb, because waste knows no boundaries.
